2021 Morgan Silver Dollar 100th Anniversary

Commemorate a major milestone in American coinage with the 2021 Morgan Silver Dollar 100th Anniversary. Released by the United States Mint to recognize 100 years since the final year of the original Morgan Dollar series in 1921, this special anniversary issue brings George T. Morgan’s legendary silver dollar design into the modern era. This version was struck at the Philadelphia Mint and features no mint mark, honoring the traditional absence of a mint mark on historic Philadelphia Morgan Dollars.

The original Morgan Silver Dollar was introduced in 1878 and struck through 1904 before production resumed for one final year in 1921. Named for its designer, U.S. Mint Chief Engraver George T. Morgan, the coin became closely associated with America’s westward expansion and industrial development. A century after its final classic issue, the Morgan Dollar returned in 2021 as part of a special U.S. Mint anniversary program celebrating the transition from the Morgan Dollar to the Peace Dollar.

Classic George T. Morgan Design with No Mint Mark

The obverse showcases Morgan’s iconic left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a cap adorned with agricultural elements and a crown bearing the word LIBERTY. The inscription E PLURIBUS UNUM, 13 stars and the date 2021 surround the portrait, preserving the distinctive appearance that has made the Morgan Dollar one of the most recognizable designs in American numismatics.

On the reverse, a heraldic American eagle with outstretched wings holds arrows and an olive branch in its talons while surrounded by a wreath. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST and ONE DOLLAR complete the design. This Philadelphia version carries no mint mark or privy mark, distinguishing it from the Denver and San Francisco mint-marked coins and the New Orleans and Carson City privy-marked versions issued for the 2021 anniversary program.

.999 Fine Silver in Original Government Packaging

While historic Morgan Dollars were composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, the 2021 anniversary release was struck in .999 fine silver with an Uncirculated finish. The United States Mint produced five versions of the 2021 Morgan Dollar to recognize the historic Mint facilities associated with the original series. The Philadelphia No Mint Mark Morgan Dollar provides a direct tribute to the facility where the first Morgan Dollars were struck in 1878.
